Paul Butler Associates acted as planning and heritage consultant on this project which involved the refurbishment and alteration of the grade II listed building to provide high quality office accommodation to appeal the Liverpool’s creative and technology industries. The building was originally The Union Newsrooms and was the first public library in Liverpool. It was latterly used as warehouse space and then offices. It had previously been fitout in the 1990s which had led to manyhistoric features been covered over and hidden. The scheme looks to expose these features and celebrate the history of the building. Paul Butler Associates prepared the supporting Heritage Statement which assessed the impact of the proposed scheme on the heritage significance of the building as required by planning policy. Following approval of the application the Practice have undertaken an Archaeological Building Recording Survey and advised the contractor on the
